The Swing Campus project is making progress in Fürth towards the inclusion of deaf pupils in the classroom
This European initiative, in which CETEM is participating, aims to prepare teachers to teach pupils with hearing impairments

The core of the Erasmus+SWING CAMPUS, coordinated by the FAU Centre of Excellence in Education, seeks to address a key challenge: how can effective communication be achieved in classrooms where hearing and deaf students learn together? To this end, partners from Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain and Belgium are collaborating to develop practical solutions for teacher training. CETEM is a key partner within the consortium, putting all its technology at the service of this project.
At the project meeting held in Fürth, Germany, the partners came together to plan the next concrete steps for the project. SWING CAMPUS is developing a free digital training programme for teacher training, aimed at trainee teachers, practising teachers and other interested users, and designed to prepare them for inclusive classroom situations. The project is developing practical materials that can be used directly in both university teaching and school practice. These include digital video dictionaries, digital flashcards, everyday phrases for the classroom, and scenario-based sign language videos illustrating typical communication situations. The programme is complemented by interactive training modules that reflect real classroom situations and support the development of practical communication skills.
The materials are being developed following a research phase lasting approximately one year, during which key vocabulary and typical classroom communication situations were identified. The instructional design and multimedia production are being carried out in close collaboration with education experts and representatives of the deaf community, and are supported by ongoing formative assessment.
This latest consortium meeting demonstrated the importance of close collaboration between higher education institutions, professionals, CETEM and other international partners when it comes to developing effective solutions for teacher training.
