Francesca continues her journey in Gothenburg towards more circular and sustainable furniture
The consortium met in Sweden to coordinate the next steps in eco-design, new materials and circular business models.

Last week, the Horizon Francesca project consortium met in Gothenburg for a further follow-up meeting. The meeting, hosted and organised by Chalmers Industriteknik, served to strengthen teamwork and continue to drive forward innovative solutions that will accelerate the green transition within the housing sector.
Over two intensive days of work, the project partners thoroughly reviewed the status of the various work packages and shared the technical milestones achieved to date. The sessions focused on coordinating future strategic actions in four key areas:
- Eco-design: Designing products with their entire life cycle in mind to minimise their environmental impact.
- New materials: Researching and implementing more sustainable and easily recyclable components.
- Circular business models: Developing viable strategies to enable companies to adopt the circular economy in a profitable way.
- Industrial demonstrators: Coordinating the validation and real-world testing of these innovations in actual manufacturing environments.
The event complemented the workshops with exclusive technical visits to the facilities of Kinnarps Sverige and Göteborgs Stads Leasing AB. These visits enabled participants to see first-hand real-life examples of success and circularity applied to materials and resource management. The exchange of knowledge proved highly enriching, providing practical and inspiring solutions that will contribute to the project’s development.
With these developments, CETEM and the other partners in HorizonFRANCESCA reaffirm their commitment to continuing to work at the forefront of efforts to transform the future of the furniture sector, making it more efficient, responsible and environmentally friendly.
