WiBand advances in the development of more accurate, efficient and adaptable location technology for multiple sectors

WiBand’s impact lies in its direct effect on society: this technology will improve safety in industrial environments, streamline logistics processes, optimise home automation, and facilitate operations in sectors such as healthcare and automotive.

The WiBand project continues to work towards becoming a key initiative for promoting advanced location technology in Spain. This CIEN Project aims to strengthen national leadership in UWB (Ultra-Wideband) communications by combining tags and radar with advanced communication techniques and machine learning, while also integrating technologies such as BLE 5.1/5.2 and the future BLE 6 (HADM) standard. Thanks to this approach, the resulting solution seeks to optimise accuracy, energy consumption, the number of anchors required and, consequently, the final cost of the systems, while also incorporating edge computing capabilities.

The importance of WiBand lies in its direct impact on society: this technology will improve safety in industrial environments, streamline logistics processes, optimise home automation, facilitate operations in sectors such as healthcare and automotive, and support the digitisation of industries as diverse as aeronautics, construction and plastics manufacturing. These advances not only modernise numerous production processes, but also contribute to safer, more efficient and sustainable environments.

The project consortium is currently working on new versions of the tracking devices, developed to offer a more robust and reliable system in each of the proposed use cases. These new PCBs incorporate a particularly significant improvement: the ability to capture raw data. This feature is essential for training artificial intelligence algorithms that are precisely tailored to the real needs of each environment, representing a notable advance in the customisation and quality of the solution.

Thanks to these advances, WiBand is moving towards its next stage: device validation and preparation for testing in real-world scenarios. This phase will be crucial in demonstrating the technology’s potential and laying the foundations for a smarter, more versatile and efficient location system capable of responding to the present and future challenges of multiple sectors.
