The FOAMBLOOM project officially begins its activities in Seville

FOAMBLOOM is embarking on a journey towards a more sustainable and circular future, in which innovation and cooperation will be key to transforming waste into new resources.

On 10 and 11 November 2025, the kick-off meeting for the FOAMBLOOM project was held in Seville. The project aims to develop sustainable alternatives for recycling polyurethane foam (PUF) and to develop products for agricultural use. Polyurethane is a polymer widely used in the furniture industry and currently lacks efficient solutions for recovery after use. As a result, large volumes of this material end up in landfills.

On the first day, the partners presented their lines of work. They also discussed the initial progress made on the initial work package, exploring possible follow-up strategies and the best ways to ensure smooth collaboration between the various teams and entities involved.

The following day, a visit was made to the Montemarta Cónica Comprehensive Waste Treatment Centre, managed by the Aborgase business group, to which EDIFESA belongs. The partners were able to see the waste treatment facilities and identify the inflow of waste containing polyurethane foam.

The launch meeting was marked by an atmosphere of collaboration, enthusiasm and commitment, reflecting the strong cohesion between the partners. With this meeting, FOAMBLOOM begins its journey towards a more sustainable and circular future, in which innovation and cooperation will be the keys to transforming waste into new resources.

The FOAMBLOOM project is funded by the State Research Agency (AEI) and co-funded by the European Union, within the call for public-private partnership projects for the year 2024. It is led by EDIFESA and involves the participation of several companies such as Biomixing, Beyond Seeds, Zymvol, and research organisations such as the University of Seville (US), the Furniture and Wood Technology Centre (CETEM) and the Segura Centre for Soil Science and Applied Biology (CEBAS-CSIC).
