The competition, the oldest in Spain that is held regularly, has been revamped in its format to recognise those products that, developed jointly by designers and companies, set a benchmark in design and have served as a driving force for innovation in the furniture and habitat sector.

The Furniture and Wood Technology Centre (CETEM) has held the awards ceremony of the 28th edition of its prestigious international industrial furniture design competition ‘CETEM DESIGN AWARD’, a very special edition conceived to recognise those products whose design has managed to captivate the attention of customers and create references in the market.

The awards ceremony was attended by the Mayoress of Yecla, Ms. Mª Remedios Lajara Domínguez, and the Regional Minister of Enterprise, Employment and Social Economy of the Region of Murcia, Ms. María Isabel López Aragón, who showed their support for this type of initiative that reinforces innovation and design as drivers of growth in regional industry. Both were accompanied by the president of the entity, Mr. Pedro Arcas Martínez.

A total of 42 products were submitted to the competition, which passed an initial selective test in order to select the 8 finalists, whose production companies had to physically present their products so that the jury, formed for this purpose, could finally make the corresponding decision.

These 8 finalist projects were: MARTINA, MACARELLA, BIRD, PENT, KENSOUND, FLOPI, VIDAS INFINITAS and INFINITY, all of them assessed under the criteria of design, innovation and sustainability.

The First Prize, worth 4,000 euros, went to BIRD, elegant tables created by the company Beltá Frajumar in collaboration with the studio Dsignio, which stand out for their careful design and perfect balance between aesthetics and functionality.

The Second Prize, with a cash award of 2,000 euros, went to PENT, a modular seating system inspired by pentagonal shapes, also developed by Beltá Frajumar together with Dsignio, that surprises with its contemporary design and great versatility.

The Third Prize, worth 1,000 euros, went to FLOPI, original upholstered stools by the company Reyes Ordoñez designed in collaboration with the designer Manex Bilbao, which won over the jury with its creativity and freshness.

The deliberation has been in charge of a top-level jury formed by renowned professionals in design, innovation and communication in the habitat sector. This year’s participants were: Héctor Serrano Barbeta, National Design Award 2024 in the modality ‘trajectory in design’; Jordi Iranzo, founder of CLAP STUDIO and National Design Award 2023 in the modality ‘young design professionals’; Clara del Portillo, co-founder, together with Álex Serna of Yonoh Studio, winners of such outstanding prizes as the IF Design; Pilar Marcos, director of Diseño Interior magazine; Juana Valcárcel, president of the Association of Design and Advertising Communication Professionals of the Region of Murcia (DIP); and José Francisco Puche, director of CETEM and president of the jury.

The CETEM DESIGN AWARD has established itself as a benchmark event at national level, committed to the synergy between design and business as a way to promote creativity, design and sustainability in the furniture sector. It is an initiative that highlights the talent and innovative capacity of a key sector for the regional and national economy.
