ReCare

Fecha de inicio: 01 Sep 2025 Fecha de finalización prevista: 31 Aug 2026
The ReCare project is developing an innovative training course to teach professional carers how to involve and train volunteers and informal carers in ‘reablement’ or functional rehabilitation techniques. The aim is to improve the autonomy of elderly patients in their homes, relieve pressure on care systems and strengthen community support. This multilingual, open-access course will be co-created, tested and disseminated through a strategic partnership between organisations in the Netherlands and Spain.

1

The first pillar of the project consists of developing an innovative, accessible and practical training programme, co-designed with and for formal carers. This course, which will be available openly and in three languages (Spanish, Dutch and English), will integrate not only the fundamentals of reablement but also pedagogical, communication and digital tool management skills essential for these professionals to effectively train informal carers. The content, enriched with practical cases and interactive exercises, will be structured to be directly applicable in real home and residential care settings.

2

To ensure that the training responds to the real needs of the sector, the project includes a crucial validation phase with the target group. Through pilot tests and focus groups with formal carers in Spain and the Netherlands, direct feedback will be gathered on the usability, usefulness and applicability of the course. This iterative process will allow the training materials to be refined, ensuring that the final result is a high-quality, effective tool that is adapted to the diverse care contexts in which users will operate.

3

ReCare’s commitment goes beyond the creation of the course, focusing on maximising its impact and long-term sustainability. To this end, a comprehensive communication and dissemination strategy will be implemented, targeting vocational training institutions, healthcare organisations and caregiver networks, facilitating the incorporation of this training into their regular programmes. The ultimate goal is to ensure that the knowledge generated endures and expands, promoting a lasting shift towards community-based, autonomy-centred models of care.
