YEFECE promotes youth entrepreneurship in furniture reuse within the circular economy

YEFECE promotes youth entrepreneurship in the reuse of furniture within the circular economy.

The European project Youth Entrepreneurship in Furniture Up-Cycling for Employment within Circular Economy (YEFECE) is making steady progress in its aim to strengthen circular economy practices, with a focus on furniture waste management in line with the Waste Framework Directive. This initiative focuses on empowering young workers and people at risk of social exclusion by providing them with tools and knowledge in recycling and circular entrepreneurship.

Through innovative methodologies, YEFECE seeks to reduce educational gaps in the circular economy, promoting social inclusion and offering solutions to growing environmental challenges. The project aims to equip young people with the necessary skills to transform waste into sustainable business opportunities, thus fostering job creation and respect for the environment.

During a recent visit to The Hague, the YEFECE team had the opportunity to learn about the work of Buurman, an inspiring association dedicated to promoting sustainability and circular practices. Buurman operates as a creative reuse centre, where surplus and discarded materials from both companies and individuals are collected and made available for new projects.

Buurman’s mission is clear: to reduce waste, stimulate creativity and strengthen a community approach to sustainability. This visit was a reminder of the enormous potential of circular economy principles when applied effectively, demonstrating that it is possible to give materials a second life and build more environmentally responsible and committed business models.
