The NewEcoSmart project holds key meeting in Naples to continue defining the keys to advance sustainable and digital innovation in rural areas
NewEcoSmart busca impulsar la transición verde y digital en áreas rurales mediante el desarrollo de habilidades, herramientas innovadoras y estrategias inclusivas.
The consortium of the NewEcoSmart project, which aims to boost the green and digital transition in rural areas through the development of skills, innovative tools and inclusive strategies, met on 28-29 January 2025 in the city of Naples, with an agenda focused on sustainability, digital innovation and territorial regeneration. This event had three main activities: the consortium meeting, a technical visit to Parco Vanvitellinao del Fusaro and a meeting with key actors in the field of sustainability and regional development.
During the consortium meeting on the 28th, the progress of the project was discussed, including training tools (the MOOV, the microlearning app, the self-diagnostic tool and a series of additional training tools), the evaluation of pilots that are being implemented since December last year in Italy, Spain and Portugal, as well as communication and sustainability strategies for the last six months of the project.
On the second day, the 29th, the Consortium conducted a technical visit in the area of Campi Flegrei, a volcanic region near Naples, where interventions integrating environmental sustainability and digital innovation have been implemented. During the visit, local and Campi Flegrei Park representatives presented the efforts to improve the green footprint of the municipality and regenerate the area in an inclusive and sustainable way.
Finally, a meeting entitled ‘Addressing the Fragility and Vulnerability of People and Places’ was organised. The meeting brought together experts, mayors, and representatives of public and private institutions to discuss innovative approaches to strengthening rural and small municipalities. Topics covered included opportunities to support sustainable innovation and municipal growth, as well as the presentation of the NewEcoSmart project.
The closing of these three events in the Italian city has been a turning point to move towards a sustainable development model that inspires communities across Europe.
