Improving training in the furniture and woodworking sector: the first newsletter from the ShiftVET project is here

It sets out the project’s main achievements to date, such as the report on advanced technologies and the practical guides for trainers

The European ShiftVET project, ‘Digital Transformation for Wood and Furniture VET’, has launched its first newsletter. This initiative aims to equip vocational training teachers with the knowledge and tools needed to integrate digital technologies into woodworking courses, with the aim of driving the digital transformation of existing programmes and boosting the appeal of traditional industries.

This first edition of the newsletter for the project in which CETEM is participating outlines the consortium’s initial progress and the first tangible results aimed at modernising vocational training in the sector. Since its launch, a number of objectives have been achieved, as detailed in this publication:

  • Launch meeting in Spain: In September, CETEM organised the first in-person meeting in Yecla, in collaboration with IES José Luis Castillo-Puche, to define future areas of work and activities.
  •

Advanced Technologies Report: A comprehensive study has been carried out to identify the technologies with the greatest potential for application in training programmes within the timber sector.

  •

Practical Guides for Trainers: Three teaching guides have been developed, focusing on 3D printing, 3D scanning and CNC. These resources are now available in four languages: English, Spanish, Italian and Latvian.

  •

International Workshops: Workshops have been held in Spain, Latvia and Italy, involving teachers, students and companies from the sector, to analyse the integration of these technologies into the classroom.

The project consortium is currently working on its next steps, which will involve compiling practical exercises and developing teaching templates ready for immediate use in the classroom, thereby enabling teachers to apply these technologies straight away.
