FITT-NESS project promotes circular economy in the furniture sector through a workshop organised by CETEM and AMUEBLA
FITT-NESS aims to promote innovation, as well as digital and sustainable transition, in the creation of smart living environments by connecting four regional innovation ecosystems in the furniture sector.
The Furniture and Wood Technology Centre (CETEM), in collaboration with the business association AMUEBLA, has held a strategic workshop in the framework of the European project FITT-NESS. The event, which took place on Wednesday 29 January, brought together representatives of the furniture sector with the aim of analysing the challenges and opportunities associated with sustainability, innovation and digital transformation in the habitat industry.
Attendees included representatives from leading companies such as Fama, Gomarco, SIM Group, ECUS and Frajumar; training and delegates from public institutions. During the day, key issues to facilitate the transition to a circular economy or how to increase innovation in the sector were discussed. The workshop addressed the need for digitalisation and technology, focusing on the application of cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics to optimise processes and improve competitiveness. In addition, sustainable practices aimed at optimising the use of resources, reducing waste and promoting recycling were highlighted. Another key point was the internationalisation of sustainable products through the development of strategies that allow companies in the furniture sector to compete in international markets. Finally, the importance of strengthening collaboration with public entities to identify new funding opportunities and support for sustainable initiatives was underlined. In this sense, participants were able to compare their conclusions with the answers provided by the AI, encouraging further debate.
This workshop represents a significant step in the effort of CETEM and AMUEBLA to consolidate the value chain of the furniture sector by working together and implementing responsible practices. Participants insisted on the importance of promoting an industrial model that combines sustainability and innovation to respond to market demands.
The FITT-NESS project, funded by the European Union as part of the Interregional Innovation Investment Facility (I3) programme, aims to promote innovation, as well as digital and sustainable transition, in the creation of smart living environments by connecting four regional innovation ecosystems in the furniture sector in Lombardy (Italy), Murcia (Spain), Northern Portugal and Sicily (Italy). This initiative aims to position the furniture sector as a benchmark in sustainability and innovation at international level.
