CETEM participates in the Accessibility Commission for the Veronicas Market within the European project AccesS.

The Access Project has been conceived with the aim of developing digital solutions that promote accessibility in smart cities and buildings.

On Tuesday 11 February, a meeting was held with organisations representing the field of architecture, accessibility and inclusion, together with municipal technicians from Murcia City Council and experts from the sector, who contributed ideas to guarantee universal mobility in the emblematic building in Murcia, a Spanish pilot building within the European project AccesS.

This action, framed in the New European Bauhaus, seeks to ensure accessibility and mobility in one of the most iconic spaces of the capital of Murcia through citizen participation in workshops and working committees such as the one held yesterday, and through the upcoming elaboration of surveys.

The event was inaugurated by the Councillor for Open Government, Economic Promotion and Employment of the City Council of Murcia, Mercedes Bernabé, who was accompanied by the Councillor for Women, Reconciliation Policies and the Elderly, Ascensión Carreño.

During the conference, organised by the Spanish partners of the AccesS project (CETEM, MIWenergía and Murcia City Council), a meeting was held with organisations representing the field of accessibility and inclusion, with the participation of FAMDIF, CERMI and Plena Inclusión Región de Murcia, together with municipal technicians, experts from the sector, the Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia and the Councillor for New Technologies, Dynamisation and Economic Development, Youth and Tourism of Yecla City Council, Isabel Pérez Millán.

This space for dialogue has served to evaluate the current state of accessibility and to propose specific improvements that favour mobility and inclusion in urban spaces and public buildings such as the Verónicas Market.

The Access (Accessible Cities for Employment in Social Services) Project has been conceived with the aim of developing digital solutions that promote accessibility in smart cities and buildings. The initiative aims to increase efficiency and sustainability, standardise a regulatory framework for accessibility in the European Union and foster innovation and collaboration.

In this context, the Veronicas Market has been selected as the pilot building in Spain, becoming a model for the implementation of innovative technological solutions that will improve accessibility and the experience of all users.

During the session, the criteria that define an accessible building and the most effective methodologies for assessing its degree of inclusion were discussed. It also identified the barriers that still persist, whether regulatory, economic, technical or awareness-raising, and explored possible solutions to overcome them. In addition, special emphasis was placed on the role of technology as a key ally in improving comfort and accessibility in public buildings, highlighting its potential to remove barriers and ensure more inclusive environments for all.
