CETEM Launches the First Virtual Museum of Furniture and Wood Carving in Yecla

As part of the CRAEFT project, CETEM has developed an immersive virtual museum that allows visitors to explore spaces, content and key elements in the history of furniture and wood carving in Yecla.

CETEM has developed the Virtual Museum of Furniture and Wood Carving in Yecla, an innovative digital initiative that highlights one of the municipality’s main industrial, cultural, and artisanal heritages.

The museum, accessible online in Spanish and English, offers an immersive experience based on 360º imaging technologies that allows visitors to explore spaces, content, and key elements in the history of furniture and wood carving in Yecla. This interactive approach enables a deeper understanding of the sector’s evolution, its techniques, trades, and economic relevance, overcoming the limitations of traditional exhibition formats.

The Virtual Museum of Furniture is the first museum space specifically dedicated to this field in the town, filling a gap in the dissemination and promotion of a sector that has been fundamental to the identity and development of the area. Through visual and explanatory content, the museum provides context for the woodcraft tradition and its transformation over time, bringing it closer to residents as well as visitors, students, and professionals.

The museum also helps strengthen the visibility of Yecla’s furniture and wood carving tradition, considered a potential candidate for recognition as a Geographical Indication at the European level, supporting its documentation, dissemination, and public recognition.

The initiative has been developed by CETEM within the framework of the European CRAEFT project, co-funded by the European Commission. The project aims to deepen knowledge of craftsmanship, combine it with technology, and promote its value as a living and sustainable heritage through digital training, preservation, and the creation of communities around traditional crafts.
