The MASTERY consortium recently concluded its second meeting, organised by Cleantech, on 24-25 June in the vibrant city of Sofia, Bulgaria. This meeting brought together representatives of various organisations committed to vocational training and the transition to a greener economy through microcredentials. During the two days, productive discussions on the implementation of various work packages took place, accompanied by a series of interactive workshops that provided valuable insights.

Workshops and working groups

Meeting participants actively engaged in three insightful workshops, each focusing on key areas for green skills development:

  • Methodology and benchmarks for identifying Micro-credential priorities: this workshop was dedicated to exploring the strategies and criteria needed to identify the essential micro-credentials that support green skills. Participants discussed how to define micro-credentialing system priorities to facilitate green transition in target sectors.
  • Microcredentials and green skills: In this workshop, the definition of microcredentials, principles for their design and issuance, and areas for action in education, training policy and the labour market were discussed in depth. The importance of microcredentials for skills upgrading in a context of increasing demand for green skills was highlighted.
  • Digital storytelling: This workshop underlined the relevance of storytelling in project development. Attendees learned about techniques to become more effective storytellers, a crucial skill for communicating the impact and objectives of MASTERY projects.

Forthcoming Publications and Areas of Focus

The MASTERY consortium is currently in the preparation phase of publishing the findings of surveys and interviews conducted by all partners. These studies are focused on identifying green skills and knowledge needs in five specific sectors:

  1. Agri-food
  2. Manufacturing
  3. Construction
  4. Wood-Furniture
  5. Sustainability Management

Forward-looking plans

Looking ahead, the next consortium meeting is scheduled for January 2025 in Yecla, Spain, and will be hosted by CETEM. This event will continue to advance MASTERY’s mission to improve collaboration between vocational education and industry. The project focuses on transforming the approach to training needs by promoting innovative validation of green skills and transferability of microcredentials.

MASTERY’s vision

The MASTERY project is committed to steering vocational training systems towards a greener economy. By focusing on micro-credentials related to green skills, MASTERY aims to address the need for upgrading and re-qualification of professional profiles. The expected results of this project will be instrumental in facilitating the transition of production systems towards the principles of the circular economy, thus ensuring a sustainable future for all.
