ALL HANDS ON DECK 360° is moving forward in its shipbuilding training
ALL HANDS ON DECK 360° was launched with the aim of developing and applying innovative practices in vocational education and training (VET) learning in traditional sectors, initially focusing on the emblematic job of ship’s carpenter.
In an effort to preserve and revitalise one of Europe’s oldest trades, the ALL HANDS ON DECK 360 project was launched with the aim of developing and applying innovative practices in vocational education and training (VET) learning in traditional sectors, initially focusing on the iconic job of ship carpenter.
The project arose in response to concerns about the loss of orally transmitted know-how once professionals retire. To address this challenge, ALL HANDS ON DECK 360° uses immersive learning tools and new technologies to make training content more engaging for both young students and practising shipwrights.
One of the main objectives of the project is to equip current shipwrights with the skills and knowledge necessary to carry on the traditions of this ancient craft, as well as to inspire younger generations to consider shipbuilding as a viable and rewarding career option.
Among the milestones achieved so far, the project partners have presented a collaborative, open-access portal designed specifically for shipwrights and apprentices. In addition, a detailed plan has been shared for the development of a multilingual platform that will contain up to 1,000 specialised terms in the field of shipwrights’ carpentry.
This European-funded project represents a joint effort of diverse actors, including educational institutions, shipbuilding industry organisations, and educational technology experts. The impact of ALL HANDS ON DECK 360° is expected to transcend borders and contribute significantly to the preservation and evolution of shipbuilding throughout Europe and beyond.
